Tony Post founded TOPO Athletic on Common sense, Simplicity and Comfort
Founded in US by Tony Post in 2013, Topo Athletic is the culmination of over 35 years of shoemaking and competitive running experience. Tony was a competitive runner when he was young. However, his racing and training goals were often thwarted by injury, overtraining competitive runner or ill-fitting shoes. Unable to support himself exclusively by running, Tony worked in a family-owned shoe business – The Rockport Company.
Tony spent 15 years at Rockport where he learned about the craftsmanship of shoemaking, the intricacies of last shapes, and how to combine materials and shoe construction so the foot can move naturally. After Rockport, Tony became president of Vibram USA where he helped create sole platforms for many premium footwear brands, he also helped spart the natural running movement with Vibram FiveFingers, an innovative footwear design that revolutionized the shoe industry and created a new category of running shoes.
After 11 years with Vibram, Tony knew there was still something missing from the market—a shoe that allowed runners to access the important benefits of natural running while maintaining some of their favorite features found in traditional running shoes.
In 2013, Tony and a small team launched Topo Athletic, with a mission to develop footwear that deliver the comfort and fit that allow you to move naturally and remain active for a lifetime.

- Roomy Toe Box – Plenty of room for the toes to spread and splay. Traditional running shoes are designed with narrow toe boxes for style, not foot health. Topo’ s roomy toe-box lets the toes spread for natural foot function and greater comfort.
- Low Drop – Topo Athletic cushioned platforms are engineered with a 0-5mm heel-to-toe drop, encouraging natural loading and foot motion during the gait cycle.
- Light weight – Lighter running shoes help you feel more efficient and comfortable resulting in a more enjoyable experience. Our ultralight materials and seam-reducing construction techniques keep weight down and blisters at bay.

In 2018, Topo Athletic became members of the Conservation Alliance (TCA), while simultaneously donating 100% of our Earth Day sales to the organization. TCA is leading the charge on wildlife and public land preservation and helps companies like Topo Athletic stay informed and engaged in the protection of public habitats.
Topo Athletic’s products are simple, by intention. Reduced materials and fewer manufacturing steps result in more natural-feeling footwear and less impact on our environment. Topo Athletic does not add features unless they are 100% necessary.
